Where Do I Get a Domain Name From?
In an earlier post, we spoke about how for every site we develop, we recommend that people buy their domain name from Namecheap. We recommend this company for all domain name purchases because Namecheap provides a FREE critical privacy featured called WhoisGuard. WhoisGuard is a privacy protection service that prevents people from seeing your name, address, phone number, and email when they do a search on who owns your website. In the place of your personal information, WhoisGuard’s contact information is displayed in the publicly-accessible Whois database, so that pesky marketers and spam do not find you.

So there are two very important parts to domains.
1) Second Level Domain
2) Top Level Domain
You would think the most important out of the two would be Top Level Domain, but for the purposes of ensuring that people can get to your website easily, your Second Level Domain is most important. The second level is the part before the .com. Check out this graphic made by the Name Cheap.

Everything before the .com is your second level domain. This is where you want to put the name of your business, brand name, or some other unique name you want people to be able to find easily. Although names like google and thespaceglobal are taken, there are many other options that you can choose from.

Everything after the dot is the top level domain. Just like the second level domain, there are many options for you to pick from. Some of the major top level domains are .com, .org, .edu, .net… and the list goes on. In these days, you can even get a top level domain that is .xyz!
So now that you know what a domain name is, what’s stopping you from grabbing one today and beginning your journey!?
